Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with a focus on database management and migration on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in Oracle database migration from lower to higher environments, a solid understanding of SQL and PL/SQL, and the ability to write scripts to automate migration paths. Experience with ETL tools, data transformation processes, and managing databases on GCP is also required.

Key Responsibilities:

Database Migration:

  • Plan, execute, and manage Oracle database migrations from lower to higher environments within GCP.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency throughout the migration process.
  • Develop and maintain migration strategies and procedures tailored for GCP.

Database Management:

  • Monitor and maintain the health and performance of Oracle databases on GCP.
  • Implement database tuning, indexing, and optimization techniques to ensure efficient performance.
  • Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, restores, and disaster recovery planning using GCP tools.

Automation and Scripting:

  • Develop scripts using SQL, PL/SQL, and GCP-specific tools to automate database migration paths and other repetitive tasks.
  • Implement and manage automation tools to streamline database operations and migrations on GCP.
  • Write and maintain comprehensive documentation for automation scripts and procedures.

ETL and Data Transformation:

  • Utilize ETL tools to extract, transform, and load data between different databases and environments within GCP.
  • Ensure data quality and accuracy during ETL processes.
  • Collaborate with data engineers and analysts to design and implement data transformation workflows on GCP.

Performance Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

  • Implement monitoring solutions using GCP tools to proactively identify and resolve database performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents and outages.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.

Cloud Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage scalable, secure, and high-availability database infrastructure on GCP.
  • Optimize cloud infrastructure for cost, performance, and security.
  • Manage GCP resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Google Cloud Deployment Manager.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with development, operations, and data engineering teams to understand requirements and provide technical expertise.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Document database configurations, processes, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain compliance records.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 5 + years of proven experience in Oracle database administration and migration.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and PL/SQL, with the ability to write and optimize complex queries and scripts.
  • Experience with ETL tools and data transformation processes.
  • Solid understanding of database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
  • Proven experience in managing and optimizing cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Google Cloud Professional Data Engineer or Cloud Database Engineer certification.
  • Experience with other database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with GCP database services such as Cloud SQL, Cloud Spanner, and BigQuery.
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools for database operations.
